Rocky Mountain Mattress Announces August 2013 Winner of The Mark A. Forester Foundation Essay Contest & Scholarship for Honoring Military Heroes

Monday, August 5th, 2013

Rocky Mountain Mattress recently held an essay contest in the name of The Mark A. Forester Foundation, prompting participants to reflect upon how they go about honoring military heroes. After carefully reviewing each submission, the charitable mattress company is proud to announce Alixandria Wright as the official scholarship winner and the grand recipient of $1,000 toward her college tuition at Ferris State University.

While there were many stunning essays written about honoring American soldiers, the judges found Wright’s piece to be particularly moving. Her essay chronicled the loss of her nineteen-year-old cousin, PFC Jason Wright, a soldier who was killed in action in December of 2003, during his tour in Iraq.

“Jason was supposed to come home for Christmas that December,” she recalls. “But gave up his leave to someone who had a wife and kid waiting on him, the sacrifice that eventually took his life.”

This wasn’t just an essay about the past, however. Because the contest was more about how participants currently honor military heroes, the judges were more specifically drawn to Wright’s everyday practices of honor.

“The definition of honor is to regard someone with great respect,” says Wright about her methods of homage. “So, I started to honor these people by the small act of thanking them. Since my cousin died, I have created a habit of thanking every service man or woman I see in uniform. I know it is not a lot in comparison for what they do for us, but it’s something I am able to do for them.”

It was this simple yet poignant sentiment that led Rocky Mountain Mattress to selecting Alixandria Wright as the essay winner and, as a result, the company is honored to reward her with $1,000 in tuition toward her schooling, on behalf of The Mark A. Forester Foundation and military heroes everywhere.

Rocky Mountain Mattress Awards $1000 Scholarship

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012

This week Rocky Mountain Mattress awarded a $1000 scholarship to Lindsey Walters, a student at the University of Central Florida, on Monday, December 17, 2012.

Rocky Mountain Mattress celebrated Independence Day this past year by partnering with the Mark Forester Foundation for this award earlier. In accordance with Independence Day, this award was patriotic in nature. It included an essay contest for eligible students who submitted works with “Honoring the Heroes” as the central theme.

Thad Forester, of The Mark Forester Foundation and a panel judge for the essay contest said of the winner,
“She seemed to have the most intimate connection with the military, between her grandfather, who served for 30 years, and her father and brother who are both actively involved in law enforcement, her empathy and sincere appreciation for everyday heroes shined through.”

Mark A. Forester, a Senior Airman, is the inspiration for the scholarship. He was killed in Afghanistan while attempting to save a fallen comrade. His heroic story is what both Rocky Mountain Mattress and the Mark Forester Foundation asked contestants to keep in mind as they crafted their essays.

Any student who would be enrolled in a college during 2013 was eligible to submit an essay to this scholarship contest. Contestants submitted works of 300-500 words in length and the competition was strong.

Rocky Mountain Mattress is a custom mattress company. They work with mattress experts and are dedicated not only to getting people the sleep they need, but making their lives a little more stress-free with great customer service. They also have a personal connection to the Mark Forester Foundation. This, as well as helping students to gain a valuable education, and honoring the men and women who sacrifice so much, are the motivations behind awarding this scholarship.

Congratulations to Lindsey Walters!

Many Americans suffer from chronic neck pain. Often times, where you find neck pain you will find other sleep deterrents, i.e. back pain and snoring! If you (or your partner) are suffering from any of the aforementioned sleep deterrents the following statistics suggest considering the use of memory foam neck pillows.

According to a 1994 study in the Journal of Rheumatology; 21(8):1520 1526, 84% of those using neck pillows for more than 18 months reported substantial neck pain relief.

According to Jackson R. The Cervical Syndrome. 4th ed IL, and the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics 1998; 21(2):89 93, report that a neck roll pillow restores the normal neck posture, in turn decreasing neck pain. In 1999, a German study in Rehabilitation (Stuttg); 38(3):170 176, showed reduced pain and fewer sleep disorders by patients using neck pillows. Finally, The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association 2004; 48(1):20-28, which compared neck pillows with standard fiber pillows, showed a neck pillow effective for daily-reduction of morning neck pain.

The benefits you just read about may be a result of the unique design of neck pillows. Memory foam neck pillows tend to last much longer than standard fiber-filled pillows. Temperature and pressure sensitive memory foam can also actually mold to fit the shape of your neck and shoulders thereby helping you to rest in a proper sleeping posture. This proper sleeping posture is the primary cause of pain reduction in both your neck and back. In addition, correct sleeping posture actually reduces snoring drastically! Finally, memory foam pillows tend to greatly reduce tossing and turning which makes for a more uninterrupted sleep.

There are a great number of memory foam pillows available: contoured styles, shredded memory foam, traditional molded shapes, and hybrid (half memory foam and half latex) pillows.

Rocky Mountain Mattress Releases a New Version of Specialty Sleep Website

Sandy, UT March 26, 2008 As part of its ongoing commitment to environmentally friendly sleep system options, Rocky Mountain Mattress is proud to announce the introduction of several new “green” products to its inventory. These new Foamex products include eco-friendly memory foams, natural latex products, bedding components, and enhanced airflow materials.

Aerus Natural Memory Foam

Most memory foam mattresses are manufactured using petroleum-based raw materials and, in some cases, through a process that can release some emissions into the atmosphere. The new Aerus Natural memory foam, however, provides an alternative, eco-friendly solution while still delivering the same high quality memory foam mattresses.

Aerus Natural features more naturally occurring ingredients, which replaces some of the synthetic raw materials used in traditional memory foams. Aerus Natural is also manufactured through a revolutionary process that essentially eliminates the emissions released through other memory foam manufacturing. In addition to its green features, Aerus Natural is also notable for its breathability, and is available in a variety of densities and heights.

Foamex Natural Bedding

The Foamex Natural Bedding product line features various aspects of a luxury sleep system designed with natural products and ingredients. Available products include rails, mattress toppers, core bases, and quilt layers. Through the Foamex Natural Bedding product line, consumers can design an entire sleep system that is environmentally responsible and natural.

DriFast Performance Cushioning

Rocky Mountain Mattress is also pleased to offer products featuring DriFast Performance Cushioning. This innovative product works to pull heat and moisture away from the individual through an increased airflow that provides a cool, dry mattress night after night.

DriFast Performance Cushioning is created through Variable Pressure Foaming technology. The VPF process is the world’s most “green” foam manufacturing process, using more natural materials and falls well into the requirements laid forth through the Clean Air Act.

Natural Latex by Foamex

When only natural ingredients will do, check out Rocky Mountain Mattress’ selection of all-natural latex products. Natural latex is not only eco-friendly, but also is naturally hypoallergenic and anti-microbial, making it an ideal option for those who suffer from allergies and mold sensitivities. Processes for creating natural latex products are more environmentally sound than many other manufacturing products as well.

Deep Discounts on Sensus and Aerus Memory Foam Toppers During the Months August and September

Sandy, UT August 13, 2007 During the months of August and September, Rocky Mountain Mattress customers are being offered significantly reduced pricing on the Sensus and Aerus memory foam toppers by Foamex. In fact, prices have been reduced up to 17% on RMMs top two selling memory foams. These discounts are being offered in conjunction with Foamex as a promotional offer.

RMM executive Mat Siltala says, This promotion comes at a great time of year for college students. With the return of another fall semester, this also means saying hello to that not so comfortable dorm room bed. The good news is that any bed can be converted into a pressure-relieving memory foam mattress with a Sensus memory foam mattress topper. Memory foam allows individuals to experience first-hand the revolutionary material made popular by NASA engineering. Foamex claims that the Sensus topper is unique in its fluidity, and is more sensitive to temperature changes on the mattress, making it one of the most responsive memory foams available. The general idea being that the memory of the Sensus toppers should last much longer than other similar products. Mat Siltala says the Sensus takes up to four times as long to return to its shape after compression. That means you’ll get superior support and pressure reduction to sensitive pressure points like your head, shoulders, hips, and heels.

It is summer time and with the higher temperatures many people are sleeping hot. I am told this can be especially true on lower quality memory foams, which tend to trap body heat, making them uncomfortably warm to sleep on. David Mink, the RMM sales manager, specifically recommends the Aerus for its state-of-the-art open-cell material, that allows air to flow through the material far more freely than it can through other memory foams up to eight times more freely. That moving air carries away excess heat and moisture, making Aerus an exceptionally comfortable sleep surface for hot sleepers.

With memory foam increasingly gaining in both popularity and cost, the RMM reduction in price is welcomed news.
