Sensus Memory Foam Rated “Best Overall Memory Foam” by The Wall Street Journal

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

These are just a few of the reasons that Sensus was rated best overall memory foam by the Wall Street Journal, even compared to Tempur Pedic brand memory foam. Discover why Rocky Mountain Mattress customers are more pleased with their Sensus brand memory foam, even if they have purchased a Tempur Pedic in the past.

The high-density Sensus memory foam offers a premium, luxurious sleeping experience for individuals who seek the ultimate in comfort and quality from their mattress. Sensus memory foam has a density of five pounds, and is available in 2, 3, and 4 inch profiles. Check out what sets Sensus apart from other memory foams:

Long Lasting

Because Sensus foam is such a high-quality product, mattress toppers made from the foam can last years’ longer than other mattress toppers. Even after years and years of use, Sensus mattress toppers maintain their shape - no need to worry about body impressions, dips, and bumps. In fact, the Sensus memory foam is backed by the manufacturer’s 10-year warranty. If at any time during the first decade of use the Sensus mattress topper loses its shape or develops body impressions, it will be replaced.

Temperature Sensitivity

While it’s true that all memory foams are by nature heat-sensitive, there are varying degrees of sensitivity. Because Sensus mattress toppers are manufactured with a more even cell structure, they are more fluidly responsive to body temperatures. When you change positions as you sleep, Sensus mattress toppers will immediately respond with soft, comfortable support. A lot of times when we wake up in the night, we don’t know what it is that causes us to awake. In many cases, it’s caused by pressure, heat,

Memory & Compression

Sensus is made through a patented process that creates a more even cell structure throughout the foam. The result is an dense, quality foam that takes up to four times longer to return to its original shape than competitors’ memory foam products. Sensus foam also has a longer memory, creating an individualized sleeping experience that reduces the pressure on your head, shoulders, hips, ankles, and other pressure points without losing its memory foam properties.

If You Sleep Hot, But Want The Comfort Of Memory Foam - Aerus Memory Foam Is Your Solution

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

True to its name, the Aerus memory foam features an open-cell design that allows for the free flow of air through the foam. Aerus memory foam features a four pound density, with mattress toppers available in 2, 3, and 4 inch profiles. See what makes the Aerus memory foam stand out above the rest:

Breathability & Air Flow

The revolutionary open-cell system that gives Aerus the inspiration for its name is far and away the memory foam’s defining feature. Some people find that traditional quality memory foams have a tendency to trap heat, thereby making the mattresses warm to sleep on. For sleepers seeking a cooler sleeping experience, Aerus may be the answer.

Compared to other high-density memory foams, Aerus allows air flow through the memory foam material up to eight times more freely. As the air moves through the open-cell memory foam, excess heat and moisture is pulled away from the mattress. That means there will be no more waking up hot and damp from an uncomfortable sleep. Instead, Aerus provides a cool, dry sleeping experience.

Longevity & Durability

In addition to its breathability, Aerus memory foam is also designed to withstand years of use without losing its shape and profile, and without the creation of body impressions. Aerus is backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. In fact, testing has shown that Aerus will retain 99 percent of its original height even after 25,000 cycles of 80 percent compression!

4 Reasons You Need To Consider 8 lb. Venus Memory Foam

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Of all the Foamex memory foam products, Venus memory foam really stands out above the rest with its ultra high 8 pound density, and superior open-cell design allowing for free flow of air. The luxurious feeling Venus is available in 1, 1.5, and 2 inch profiles. There are plenty of features that set Venus apart from the rest:

Ultra High Density

The incredible 8 lb density, Venus, is manufactured in the United States. The ultra dense material offers superior support and unrivaled comfort as part of either a memory foam or spring mattress sleep system. The high density foam helps to greatly reduce pressure on key points by up to 50 percent, which means your head, shoulders, hips, ankles, and other pressure spots will be cradled by the dense Venus foam.

There is virtually no motion transfer with the Venus mattress topper, which makes it ideal for partners with different sleep schedules and styles.

Breathability

Venus is revolutionary in its ability to combine high-density foam with a cool, dry sleeping experience. The mattress topper is designed with industry-leading, open-cell structure that allows air to flow freely through the material. As air flows, it pulls moisture and heat away from the sleeper, leading to a cooler, drier night of sleep. No more waking up damp and hot.

Durability

Venus was built to last. Backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, the Venus “bounce back” is remarkable. After 25,000 cycles of 80 percent compression, Venus mattress toppers maintained 100 percent of their original height.

Anti-Microbial

In addition, the visco-elastic Venus material is anti-microbial; meaning that fungi, spores, and viruses will not grow and thrive in the mattress topper (a phenomenon not uncommon with traditional mattresses!).

Open Cell Memory Foam - vs - Closed Cell Memory Foam {Explained}

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Occasionally, we hear from customers who are concerned about the stories they’ve heard about hot memory foam mattresses. In most of these situations, a friend or acquaintance has complained about how hot their memory foam mattress is, and how it’s difficult to sleep and stay cool & dry. Chances are, this person has inadvertently purchased a memory foam mattress made of low-quality, slow recovery memory foam designed with a closed cell design.

Open Cell vs. Closed Cell Memory Foam

Memory foam is designed with either an open cell or closed cell make up. Open cell memory foam returns to it’s previous shape quickly, and allows for more airflow through the material. Think of open cell memory foam as having tiny air balloons in its core. Even with pressure applied to the foam, air is able to flow through the memory foam mattress. This keeps the mattress cool, fresh, and dry.

Closed memory foam is designed for many uses, and some lower-quality manufacturers may use closed cell memory foam for mattresses. These mattresses do not allow for adequate air flow, which will lead to a warm sleeping surface. The memory foam is unable to “breathe,” which traps moisture & body heat, making sleep less sound.

Rocky Mountain Mattress Products
The manufacturers used by Rocky Mountain Mattress - Bayer & Foamex memory foam mattresses - use only open-cell mattresses. These products are specifically designed to be breathable, cool, and dry, and are among the highest quality foams created.

In fact, the Aerus by Foamex is a revolutionary memory foam which allows air to flow up to eight times more freely through its open cell system.

As the air travels through the memory foam, heat and moisture is pulled away from the sleeping individual and out of the memory foam mattress.

Why You Should Be Concerned If You Bought A Memory Foam Product From An Asian Manufacturer

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

One question that we often hear from first-time memory foam buyers deals with concerns regarding the presence of harmful chemicals in memory foam. Because memory foam has a distinct scent, many people are worried that the off gases given off by the material and the chemicals used in its creation can be dangerous. And while it’s true that some manufacturers - especially low quality, Asian-made memory foam - does contain some harmful chemicals, most American-made memory foams are 100% safe.

Are the Rocky Mountain Mattress - memory foam mattresses safe?

Absolutely! Rocky Mountain Mattress uses only high quality Bayer memory foam and Foamex memory foam, and they are among the most high-quality memory foam manufacturers that are based in the United States. American manufacturers must adhere to certain regulations that ensure the products are safe. When you receive your mattress, you may notice a particular scent wafting from the memory foam. This is completely normal, and completely safe. It is recommended that you allow the memory foam to air out for up to 24 hours to reduce the scent, which occurs when the packaging traps the smell of the harmless chemicals used in the manufacturing process in the foam.

At the end of the day, though, the bottom line is that most domestic memory foams - including the Rocky Mountain Mattress memory foam line of Bayer and Foamex - are completely safe!

What makes other memory foams - like those made by Asian manufacturers - unsafe?

Because some countries have less restrictive regulations regarding the manufacturing process, there are some memory foam mattresses that may contain harmful chemicals. It is not uncommon for these manufacturers to use fixers such as formaldehyde in the manufacturing process, which can be an irritant to those with sensitive skin and some allergies. The smell of these mattresses can often be enough to be bothersome for some consumers.

In addition to causing problems for some individuals, the manufacturing process used by some companies overseas can also release CFCs and other dangerous gases into the environment. Regulations in the United States prevent manufacturers from allowing such practices.

Again, though, this is usually only found in mattresses that are not made in the United States. We recommend always buying from trusted, American-made manufacturers like Bayer and Foamex to ensure that there are no harmful chemicals in your mattress.

Comparison of the RMM memory foam mattress line to the Tempur-Pedic® line

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Many of our customers and callers ask the question- how do your memory foam products compare with the “gold standard” Tempur-Pedic® memory foam products? That is a loaded question, but in two words, our answer is “very favorably.” This article will explore the answer to that question in more detail.

Price- Rockymountainmattress.com vs. Tempur-Pedic®

If this comparison was a four round boxing match- Round 1 would be a unanimous decision in favor of Rockymountainmattress.com. Our memory foam products are half the price or even less than half of any like Tempur-Pedic® product. We also offer free shipping and a free memory foam pillow with all orders, whereas our competitors charge shipping and do not offer a free pillow.

Quality- Rockymountainmattress.com v. Tempur-Pedic®

(Rockymountainmattress memory foam is made by Foamex ®, to see a video about our manufacturer click here http://foamex.com/foamex_video.htm.)

This round would be close and different judges will differ. To focus in on the subject of quality we will compare the Sensus 5 lb. memory foam topper to the Tempur-Pedic® 5 lb. density memory foam. We feel the Sensus memory foam is softer and not as stiff as the Tempur-Pedic® foam. Foamex has done research and the thermal photos tend to show that the Sensus mattress pad may be superior in terms of relieving pressure and pain over other memory foams. The 5 lb Sensus mattress pad does not fatigue as quickly as the 5lb Tempur-Pedic®. This was also tested by Foamex, using a compression cycle test.

Foam sizes- Rockymountainmattress.com v. Tempur-Pedic®

The Sensus mattress topper pad is available in 2”, 3”, and 4” heights where as the Tempur-Pedic® is only available in 3.”

Custom preferences- Rockymountainmattress.com v. Tempur-Pedic®

Finally, www.rockymountainmattress.com specializes in custom memory foam mattresses, which means you can design your own custom mattress. We can cut the foam to any size and use the foam densities you prefer in the order you prefer them.

Rockymountainmattress.com carry’s 6 types of visco elastic memory foam mattresses and 4 brands of memory foam mattress pad toppers all made with Foamex ® manufactured foams . In our opinion, and based on research by Foamex, each one of these products compares favorably with Tempur-Pedic in terms of quality.

Foamex is the #1 bedding foam supplier in North America, holding more than 225 patents, and offering technologies that cannot be duplicated elsewhere, including SMTSM, VPFSM and CPCSM.

Our prices are far superior to Tempur-pedic, in fact many of our “like” products are as much as 70% cheaper. The question stands to reason- how can we offer a similar quality product at such a reduced cost? The answer: 1) we ship to you factory direct, 2) we do not pay for enormous media advertising campaigns, 3) we only charge sales tax in the state of Utah, whereas Tempur pedic must charge sales tax in ever state, and 4) we offer free shipping and a memory foam pillow with all memory foam mattress topper pad purchases (they don’t).

No two memory foam mattresses are alike. In fact, it is primarily the different combinations of foam types, densities, and thicknesses which differentiate one memory foam mattress from the next.

Rockymountainmattress.com can offer custom mattress design options to the consumer, which Tempur-pedic won’t. In fact, if there is a particular combination that you prefer, we can build it for you for prices far below the competition. Choose among the Aerus, Sensus, Venus, and Energia Foamex ® brand memory foams. Choose among memory foam densities ranging from 3 to 8 lb, and thicknesses from 1 to 4 inches. Then custom arrange the layers to achieve your desired comfort level. We can either send the layers individually and provide you a zippable terry cloth/velour cover to encase the layers, or we can laminate the layers together, and laminate a cover to the mattress in our facility, and then ship the finished product to you.

Tempur-Pedic ® is a registered trademark of Dan-Foam A/S Corporation. We don’t sell the Tempur-Pedic ® brand, and we are in no way affiliated with Tempur-Pedic ®. The information on this site with regard to Tempur-Pedic ® foam is for comparison purposes to our product line only.

Testimonial: RMM Memory Foam Eliminates Lower Back Pain

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

We received this testimonial from a recent customer of ours. It’s amazing what the right mattress can do for someone with a sore back or other ailments. Thanks Mike and Kathy and we are happy we are able to help. We hope to hear more from you soon!

Dear Rocky Mountain Mattress Company,

Wow, what a difference it makes to wake up every morning without lower back pain. I’ve had my new memory foam mattress for about 5 weeks now, and have experienced none of the lower back pain that I use to wake up with. My previous mattress was a conventional design with inner coil springs. It was less than 2 years old, and was very pricey, manufactured by America’s best known brand. But there is no comparison between it and the memory foam. Instead of rolling into your partner at night (or at least, trying to maintain your position) with a conventional mattress, the memory foam allows you to have your own channel to sleep in. You are isolated from the movements of your partner. I wish I would have had this years ago. I also love the fact that the memory foam comes in multiple layers, thereby making it easy to handle. I just wanted to say thanks for changing the quality of my sleep by an order of magnitude.

Sincerely,
Mike and Kathy M.
Albuquerque, NM

Do RMM Memory Foam Beds Compare to Tempurpedic…YES

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Over the last few weeks I have had many discussions with friends and family about how RMM memory foam beds compare with Tempurpedic memory foam beds. The answers I share typically surprise all of them because Tempurpedic beds, when lined up with ours, generally either compare identically or are out performed by our RMM memory foam beds. They fall short in different areas, but we always beat them in some areas such as FREE shipping, interchangeable foam layers, no sales tax (except in Utah), and we always throw in a few free items such as pillows or a Protect-A-Bed mattress cover.

To show how our beds compare let me discuss the main areas of comparison where we match what Tempurpedic offers:

  1. Profile height–we offer memory foam beds in all different sizes, shapes, and heights. We offer multiple models that compare evenly with Tempurpedic and many that have a taller profile as well.
  2. Anti-allergenic products–all our memory foam beds are anti-allergenic and offer cover options that are anti-allergenic as well.
  3. Removable terry velour cover–all our beds come standard with a terry velour cover that can be removed for washing.
  4. Nasa memory foam technology–the foam available through Tempurpedic compares almost identically to ours and uses the same technology used by Nasa when memory foam was invented.

Not only do we line up with Tempurpedic on these levels, but we exceed them in many areas as well.

  1. FREE shipping to anywhere in the contiguous United States.
  2. We offer component beds (in addition to our laminate beds) allowing you to change the layering of your memory foam to adjust for softness or firmness. This enables you to find the exact comfort level for you.
  3. We almost always include with your mattress purchase a set of FREE memory foam pillows or a protective mattress cover.
  4. We don’t have to charge you sales tax (unless you live in Utah) which can save you big bucks.
  5. When you call our customer service number you will get a human on the line.
  6. PRICING: perhaps the most amazing area we beat Tempurpedic in. When you compare similar beds you will find that RMM beds typically are 50% less than than Tempurpedic beds.

With these factors in mind you simply cannot ignore the fact that an RMM memory foam bed is right for you. You don’t have to believe me; you can read what our customers have to say.

Check out our RMM memory foam mattress product line now! I guarantee you’ll love it.

Other Uses For Memory Foam

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Hello and welcome to the brand new Rocky Mountain Mattress (RMM) blog. This blog entry is titled “Other Uses for Memory Foam” and I thought that might be a great first entry into our blog. The reason being is because while memory foam is commonly used in memory foam mattress and mattress topper there could be (and certainly should be) other places to use memory foam.

flying magic memory foam carpet

Wouldn’t it be nice to walk around all day on cloud of memory foam? I have seen slippers that have memory foam in them, but never seen business shoes or tennis shoes that offer that option. Given that you would have to put some really high quality foam in there to withstand the “daily grind”), it would certainly make for some comfortable walking. Memory foam could make a great base for an office chair. So many of us spend countless hours in front of the computer each day surfing the web (otherwise known as working) and our backs show it. Better yet; why not make airplane seats out of memory foam? That could open up a whole new class of seating for the airlines. You can choose from first class, coach, or memory foam and I’m sure that memory foam could make its presence felt in the sporting arena. I have sat through countless hours of sporting games thinking…how much longer do I have to sit in this hard plastic death chair.

How about our pets…how many of our dogs would love a memory foam mattress to sink into at night to get their beauty rest and they would probably thank us by barking softer, biting lesser, and obeying the master of the house. It is startling to think what a little memory foam might do to curb a disturbed puppy’s attitude.

Maybe on day we will all be driving around in cars with memory foam seat pads that give us the cushion we need for the long road trips without stops. Memory foam has come a long way in the last 30+ years since NASA developed it and I wonder how far it will go in the future.

This is just a small list of ideas I thought of that would make my life easier…what ideas do you have?
