Fire retardants used in the mattress industry

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Fire retardants used in the mattress industry – specifically, the fire retardants used in many of the all-natural latex mattresses.

From RMM

All mattresses on the market are required to withstand a 2-foot wide blowtorch open flame for a period of 70 seconds, as of 2007. For cost reasons, many of these manufacturers opt to use toxic fire retardants that contain a combination of the following:

Boric Acid (reproductive and developmental toxin, used as a pesticide)
Antimony (causes heart and lung damage, possible carcinogen)
Decabromodiphenyl Oxide (causes hair and memory loss, possible carcinogen)

Not us!

In contrast, natural latex mattresses are all-natural and provides the same safety standards without compromising on quality or safety. The Rocky Mountain Mattress latex mattress lineup uses a fire retardant made up of:

Wood Pulp
Natural Silica

Natural Latex Mattress Review & Testimonial

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Rocky Mountain Mattress,
We ordered a Natural Latex Mattress, 3 inch queen size. My God how wonderful it is. I cannot believe it feels so great and comfortable. I sleep like a log now. It feels new every night I go to bed. I never have the dents in the mattress that is common with most mattresses. My replaced hips used to feel so painful on a regular mattress but now I am in heaven.

Thank You, Thank You. Shay Williams.

Why latex is a good option for heavier individuals?

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Latex is better for heavy people

More and more people are becoming aware of latex mattresses. These mattresses are extremely popular because of their comfort and support. Many people around the world admit that latex mattresses are the most comfortable mattress on the market today.

Latex mattresses are made naturally from the sap of rubber trees. The rubber is usually whipped to create a foam-like substance. The foam is then poured into a mold to cure. The Talalay process uses a vacuum and rods to remove all of the air bubbles, distribute the material evenly throughout the mold and to lock in the consistency. The Dunlop process does not use the vacuum or freezing processes but does steam the mold to cure the material. Either way, latex mattresses are durable, natural, comfortable and supportive.

Latex mattresses are probably the best option for heavier individuals. Innerspring mattresses wear down quickly with heavier weight, which leads to coils and springs poking the individual all night long. Memory foam mattresses could be a better option. However, the more weight that is added, the faster memory foam will break down as well. Memory foam loses its characteristics and benefits once it is broken down. Instead of being supportive and long-lasting, memory foam can sag once it is broken down.

Latex mattresses are the best option for heavier individuals because of many reasons. Latex mattresses come with a stronger core than traditional mattresses. They are also much more durable than other mattresses. The typical life of a traditional mattress is between 5-7 years. The typical life of a latex mattress is 20+ years. Latex mattresses incorporate all of the benefits of memory foam mattresses, without any of the cons. Latex mattresses are more breathable and do not come with a disturbing odor the way memory foam mattresses do.

If you need a more durable mattress or want one that will support the entire weight of your body, you need to try a latex mattress. Latex mattresses are the only good option for heavier individuals.

latex mattress

Latex mattress get the highest customer satisfaction rating out of all of the different types of mattresses. The majority of customers who sleep on latex mattress say that latex mattresses offer them comfort and support that they haven’t received from any other kind of mattress.

Latex mattresses are a breakthrough new product. But, are they really new? Latex foam mattresses have actually been around since 1929. The process for making latex mattresses has been around for quite some time.

Latex mattresses are made from rubber trees. The sap of the rubber tree is used to manufacture natural latex mattresses. The sap is ‘foamed’ into latex foam. It is whipped into a porous and some-what soft bedding material.

There are two major manufacturing processes that are used to make latex mattresses. The Talalay and Dunlop processes are used to create memory foam mattresses. The Talalay process is the most traditional method and widely used method.

Latex mattresses are naturally hypoallergenic, pest resistant, odor-free and anti-microbial. These mattresses are perfect for people with asthma and/or allergies. Latex mattresses are more firm, more durable and more comfortable than any other kind of mattress.

A Mattress Far Superior Then A Four Seasons Mattress

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Dear David:

Your service has been wonderful and this is my first experience in buying something this costly form someone I did not meet. I formally lived in Beverly Hills and sold my house to Mathew Perry of TV Friends and am used to good service. If you want to use me as a reference please feel free to do so.

9 inch latex mattress

The bed and latex mattress system are wonderful. We formally purchased a mattress that they use at the Four Seasons Hotel and this is far superior. You will be hearing from someone that I did suggest the bed to in the near future.

Again thanks and Happy New Year

Comfort that Only a Latex Foam Mattress Can Provide

Haven’t you heard about latex mattresses? Haven’t you heard how popular they are right now? Latex mattresses are not popular for the same reason innerspring mattresses are. Innerspring mattresses are popular because they are so inexpensive. Latex mattresses, on the other hand, are popular because they offer unprecedented comfort and support.

Latex mattresses offer the same benefits as memory foam mattresses. The only difference is that there really isn’t a downside to latex mattresses. Mattress owners say that latex mattresses are not as ‘hot’ as memory foam mattresses. Latex mattresses also have a much quicker response time. This means that it doesn’t take as long for the mattress to respond each time you need to change positions.

Latex mattresses offer an unprecedented level of comfort. This is the kind of comfort that only a latex foam mattress can provide. Latex mattresses relieve pressure points better than memory foam mattresses. This is remarkable because memory foam mattresses do a great job in relieving pressure points. However, latex foam mattresses do an even better job.

Latex foam mattresses have also become popular among people who suffer from allergies or asthma. Latex mattresses are made naturally out of 100% natural products. Latex is naturally hypoallergenic and anti-microbial. These mattresses also are completely resistant to dust mites, bed bugs, mold, mildew and other allergens.

It is about time that you enjoyed a superior level of comfort. This kind of comfort can only be achieved when sleeping on a good quality latex foam mattress. Enjoy the kind of comfort that only a latex foam mattress can provide. It’s about time.

Can a Mattress Really be Certified Organic?

Can a Mattress Really be Certified Organic?

Do you remember when the ‘organic’ movement began? The 1990s introduced a new form of organic consumerism. Organic products have even become more popular in recent years. People who can afford it only buy organic products. These products range from milk, dairy, and produce to clothing and mattresses.

By definition, organic products are more sustainable and more environmentally friendly than conventional products. Consumers look for and appreciate organic products more than conventional products because of their potential health benefits. Organic products contain fewer chemicals and pesticides than regular products.

There has been a dramatic increase in demand for organic bedding. People want to use mattresses, blankets, sheets, pillows, etc that are all-natural. Companies have begun pushing these organic products quite heavily. But, it is really possible for a mattress to be certified organic?

If you are looking to only use 100% organic materials, it is also important to note what it takes for mattresses to be organic certified. Mattresses can be certified organic if they contain mostly organic materials. However, these mattresses do not have to contain exclusively organic materials.

For instance, you can’t have an ‘organic’ innerspring mattresses because these mattresses contain steel coils. Steel coils simply cannot be organic. Polyurethane can’t be organic either because it is composed entirely of synthetic chemicals. There are two types of latex mattresses: talalay and natural. Talalay latex mattresses contain 30% synthetic latex. Thus, talalay latex cannot be organic.

Natural latex is a bit of a different story. Natural latex mattresses are often called 100% natural. Most times, this isn’t quite the case. Although the material may be 100% natural, the process of manufacturing latex mattresses take away some of the organic characteristics. Ammonia is added to the milky sap of the rubber tree. This prevents coagulation of the rubber. Although the ammonia is removed later, it still prevents latex from being completely certifiably organic.

Other additives are used the making latex mattresses. Soaps and curing agents are always used. A latex mattress manufacturer would have to undergo a rigorous inspection process to ensure that each mattress is certified organic. Just because most natural latex mattresses cannot be considered ‘organic’ does not take away their benefits. These mattresses are by far the best and most natural sleep surface on the market.

Popularity Of Latex Mattresses

Popularity Of Latex Mattresses

Consumers have finally decided to stop using innerspring mattresses. Innerspring mattresses are great if you are looking for a cheap mattress. However, if you are looking for a comfortable mattress, innerspring mattresses are not what you need. What you need is a latex mattress.

People who own latex mattresses give them a high comfort rating over 90 percent of the time. Latex mattresses offer more comfort and support than any other kind of mattress. Because of this, latex mattresses are the most popular kind of mattress.

Latex mattresses aren’t popular just because of the comfort and support that they provide. Latex mattresses are the most environmentally friendly mattress product. From the manufacturing process to the finished product, latex mattresses have joined the green movement. Many people appreciate this aspect. More people want to support products that help our environment, rather than hurt it. Often times, people don’t care what price they have to pay to get a “green product.” Latex mattresses are more expensive, but it doesn’t seem to matter much to consumers.

Almost every king of mattress has had its bought with popularity. Innerspring mattresses were popular for a time because they are so inexpensive. Memory foam mattresses have been popular but some people find that these mattresses are either too hot or too confining. The popularity of latex mattresses is here to stay. The only downfall to these mattresses is that they are expensive. However, the comfort and support of these mattresses weighs out the price tag.
Consumers who have tried latex mattresses all agree that these are the most comfortable and supportive mattresses. These people have promised that they will never sleep on anything else. Another reason why these mattresses are so popular is because they are considered to be a “green product.” Consumers are more supportive to environmentally friendly products. Latex mattresses haven’t been around that long but they sure have been popular among consumers.
