Tossing and turning is one of the worst things in life. There isn’t anything worse than lying in bed all night desperately trying to fall asleep. Your mattress could be the culprit to your sleeping problems. Or, it could also be your bedding. You probably never imagined that did you?

Yes, your mattress and/or your bedding may be keeping you up at night. It is important to remember that you are not alone. Millions of people all around the world are just like you. The good news is that because so many people are suffering, just like you, there is bound to be a solution that will fit your individual needs.

Most people don’t really take a careful inventory of their room. They bought their mattress years and years ago because it was “a good deal.” Some people been sleeping on the same mattress for 20+ years. Here are some helpful tips to get you back on track.

1. How old is your mattress? The Better Sleep Council recommends replacing your mattress every 5 years. Chances are, you never have replaced your mattress or haven’t replaced it enough times.

2. How big is your mattress? Is your mattress large enough for your needs? Do you have the room you need to stretch out in your bed? Can you turn comfortably in your bed? If you share your bed with your spouse, you need to make sure that you both have enough room.

3. Does your mattress support you well enough? If you have been sleeping on the same mattresses for over 7 years, it is seriously time to reconsider. That mattress cannot be supporting you well enough. And, as you get older, your body has different needs and needs more support. Chuck the old mattress and get a new mattress that supports you.

4. How comfortable is your mattress? Did you know that you could actually sleep on a mattress that relieves pressure points instead of creating them? Yes, innerspring mattresses tend to create pressure points and leave you feeling achy the next day. Memory foam mattresses and latex mattresses relieve these pressure points and actually leave you feeling well rested. Imagine that.

5. How is your pillows and bedding? Is your bedding comfortable or itchy and scratchy? Is your pillow too firm or too soft? You might feel like Goldilocks for a little while, but it will be worth it. Carefully choose bedding that will help you relax instead of keeping you up at night.

Having the right sleeping environment is crucial for a good night’s sleep. Take a careful inventory of your mattress, your bedding and your pillow. If something isn’t right, fix it. You can finally get a good night’s sleep.
