Don Owens – Mattress Specialist of 27 years shares some insight with Rocky Mountain Mattress customers:

Ah, the joys of motherhood! But they sometimes come with a price.

More and more of today’s moms are trying to spend time with their children and work outside of the home as well.

Facts: Three-quarters of moms experience symptoms of insomnia, 59% wake up feeling unrefreshed in the morning and, in the hour before bedtime, 70% are completing household chores or doing activities with their children.

Mood swings? Frequent infections? Heightened irritability? Weight gain? Studies suggest that the lack of health-restoring, sound sleep may be a contributor to many physiological and physiological maladies mothers experience.

What’s a mom to do? Make a real effort to include restful sleep in your health repertoire. Moms and all parents are modeling for the next generation. Don’t forget to include one of life’s most essential requirements as you juggle all those plates!

Do it for your family. Do it for you!

Some sleep nuggets:

Grandmother may be right! Drink a glass of warm milk as it contains tryptophan, a chemical that can promote sleep in some people or consider a cup of calming herbal tea, with a twist of lemon. Resist anything with caffeine or alcohol before you go to bed.

Children first! Make sure that your children’s bedtime is at least 2 hours before yours, this will allow you enough time for yourself.

Dark, quiet and cool! Create a comfortable and sleep-conducive sleep atmosphere.

Plan B: Poor iron, poor sleep! Research suggests that women who suffer from iron deficiency experience.

Sweet dreams!
