Even Where Sleep Is Concerned, Too Much Is A Bad Thing

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

The quote Even where sleep is concerned, too much is a bad thing comes from Homer

DON OWENS – Mattress Specialist of 27 years shares the following with Rocky Mountain Mattress blog readers:

Warning: Sleep may be hazardous to your health. At least too much sleep!

That according to Daniel Ripke, M.D. professor of psychology, University of California headed a six-year research group involving more than a million men and women. His conclusion: People who slept more than 8 hours per night actually had a worst mortality rate than those who slept less than 8 hours.

Your body needs time to rest and recover from the rigors of the day, but it also needs activity to stay healthy.

Some sleep nuggets:

The sun is your friend! When you get up in the morning, try to get 15 minutes exposure to sun light. It helps your biological clock and brightens your day.

Get outta bed! When the alarm goes off, get up and start your day. Instead of lying in bed, looking at the ceiling use those extra minutes to be with your family or being productive.

Use your bed for sleep and romance only! No computers, no television, no work, no food.

Plan B: Out of site out of mind! Put the sleep project in the background of your life. Don’t monitor it, don’t evaluate it, and don’t even think about it.

Sweet dreams!
